Look Everyone! I’m About To Be In A Plane Crash!

Posted by bvalaw on February 5, 2015

In a report released last week, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) concluded that a plane crash last May near Denver was caused, at least in part, by the pilot taking pictures of himself with his cell phone. Both the pilot and his passenger were killed when the Cessna 150 two-seater crashed in a field.

The NTSB found no evidence of pre-impact abnormalities that would have prevented the normal operation of the plane. The NTSB states that it is likely that the pilot became disoriented, lost control of the plane, stalled the engine and then crashed after being distracted by the cell phone usage.

Although not in use on this particular flight, the plane was equipped with a GoPro camera, which was mounted to the windshield. The prior recordings showed a history of the pilot and other passengers taking selfies and texting with their cell phones. This just goes to show that cell phone usage in planes is just as dangerous as it is in cars.
